BY THE RIVER GENTLY FLOWING-Illinois 200.

OUR STATE SONG speaks of a gently flowing river. And some think its a fitting symbol of Illinois's achievements. And perhaps it is and you can make a list of a lot of them. From a prairie of wilderness to industrial businesses. With that Illinois grew with some top universities and we sent 4 presidents to the White House.Abraham Lincoln,Ulysses S.Grant ,Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama.

WHAT FASCINATES ME is that in February 1809 the territory of Illinois was first discovered almost the same week Abraham Lincoln was born.It shows the deep connection between the two.

HOWEVER,the river may be flowing whether it's gentle now or not is the question. For the state with all its good in it has a big tax problem. And while some good men and women are fighting it it's not enough for many are gently flowing out of Illinois. And as we marked the 200yrs as a state we do have a lot to be thankful for.Her history is fascinating ,but her history of politicians have not all been that great. For some have have worked hard to make this a great state while others worked hard to downgrade it.And there's nothing gently flowing about that.

BUT TO SAY with this Illinois still has much to offer and it is here where Lincoln moved up to the presidency. It's why we call it the Land of Lincoln.A place also where General Grant under Lincoln also moved up to the presidency. And declared "Let us have peace."

RONALD REAGAN grew up in Dixon,IL in which many still come to visit it.Which makes Illinois as some beacon of hope and where Barack Obama  became America's first African American president.Declaring "Yes we can!"

ILLINOIS'S HISTORY has much to inspire us not to give up on this Prairie State. She has given us great communities like the one I live in #MarengoIl.But we need to do something about the taxes.Regardless of how much you think we need to raise taxes. There is people that barely make enough to get by and some don't make enough and our leaders want to keep raising taxes? When your state is in debt you don't raise taxes.

We know our schools, our health care places need cared for so they can care for  us and educate our kids. But you can't break the people in doing it.But HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Illinois and HAPPY NEW YEAR.May the river run gently for the next 200yrs and may it produce not only good men and women, but may it produce a more secure place where the citizens are surrounded by the works of the dedicated can live with less taxes and more opportunities to fulfill their American dreams and keep Illinois  heading into more growths and hopes for better tomorrows. Thanks 4 listening.-Bob.
