LBJ AND THE PRESS'S NEW STYLE!!
"I've served my time with that bunch and I give up on them. There's no objectivity left anymore. The new style is advocacy reporting. Send some snotty nosed reporter down here to act like a district attorney and ask me where I was on the night of the twenty third. I'm always guilty unless I prove otherwise. So to hell with it."- Lyndon Johnson.
President Lyndon B. Johnson kept the press off his property after he left the White House and the above quote is how he felt after leaving office.
Despite at times he felt President's should respect the press because you hit them the wrong way-they'll never let up on you. I agree with that and I guess he thought Richard Nixon was tough on them. But if LBJ lived to see what they've been doing to Donald Trump-he would understand why Nixon was tough on them. But then had he seen Watergate who knows.
Respect goes both ways,if the press was respectful even in there disagreements with the president then there wouldn't be any president who would not of loved to work with the press. And vice versa.
While I get the fact the press has their job to do,but to help, conspire or impeach a sitting president, participate in fake news just for coverage and ratings plus their hatred for him is far worse than Nixon and Watergate.
The press when determined to try and convince you're guilty of something and act like a district attorney then that's exactly what they've become. President Trump called them the enemy of the people. While I wouldn't say all of them are,but some are bias and they can seriously hurt the country more being this way than help it.
And until honest journalists and medias are honest with the people being fair and balanced in their criticisms and stand by the truth as they did with Richard Nixon the people will have a hard time trusting them.
Trump is not perfect I get it nor easy to deal with but the press can be fair in their criticism and still have respect for the office of the Presidency. Nor is the press perfect and the president should find ways to have common ground for the sake of the country. And I believe he will as long as he's not falsely accused as so many times he has been.
It's time the country moves together. The President, the Press and the People. As crazy some would think I am. I'd like to see us all write America's story with more faith and less hate and division. Thanks for listening.
